Chiara Leal Alves

Chiara is a PhD student in Electrical and Computer Engineering. She is from Brazil and has a bachelor in Biochemical Engineering. She loves everything in science that could be applied to bioprocess. Her project involves engineering and selecting enzymes capable of breaking down cellulose into fermentable sugars under an ionic environment. For that, she is going to use synthetic biology tools such as genetic engineering and directed evolution, and select the best enzymes in a hybrid microfluidic (droplet and channel based). Chiara loves singing, travelling and walking her dog.
